1899.07.15 (M32) - station opened by Gan'etsu Railway as Wakamatsu Station, terminus of the line. 駅は「若松駅」として岩越鉄道に開業された、当時は終着駅であった。
1904.01.20 (M37) - Gan'etsu Railway main line extended from Wakamatsu to Kitakata. 岩越鉄道の本線が喜多方駅まで伸ばされた。
1906.11.01 (M39) - Gan'etsu Railway nationalised. 岩越鉄道が国有化された。
1909.10.12 (M42) - Kōriyama ~ Kitakata line named Gan'etsu Line. 郡山駅と喜多方駅間の線路は「岩越線」に名付けられた。
1917.05.21 (T6) - station renamed Aizu-Wakamatsu Station. 駅は「会津若松駅」に改称された。
1917.10.10 (T6) - Gan'etsu Line renamed Ban'etsu West Line. 岩越線は「磐越西線」に改称された。
1926.10.15 (T15) - Aizu Line opened from Aizu-Wakamatsu to Aizu-Bange. 「会津線」が会津若松駅から会津坂下駅まで開通された。
1932.xx.xx (S7) - roundhouse completed, with 15 tracks inside and 6 tracks outside. 扇形庫は完成された、庫内で１５線、庫外で６つ線の収容線があった。
1941.xx.xx (S16) - gantry crane and coaling tower of 170 t capacity installed. ガントリークレーン及び１７０tの石炭塔が設えられた。
1949.01.27 (S24) - single-track tankless sanding equipment installed at Aizu-Wakamatsu (tank added in 1952). 無タンクの単線の砂施設は設えられた。１９５２年でタンクは付け加えられた。
1961.xx.xx (S36) - station building rebuilt. 駅舎が改築された。
1963.11.06 (S38) - underground diesel tank installed for DCs, with six refuelling stations. DCのために６つ給油スタンドがあるの地下のディーゼル燃料タンクが設えられた。
1965.10.01 (S40) - Green Window opened. みどりの窓口が設置された。
1967.01.09 (S42) - new electric locomotive inspection shed built. 新しいEL検査施設は建てられた。
1970.09.01 (S45) - two underground fuel tanks installed for filling steam generators. SGを満たすために二つの地下の燃料タンクは設えられた。
1972.10.01 (S47) - Aizu-Wakamatsu Station Travel Centre (affiliated with Japan Travel) opened. 会津若松駅旅行センターが開設された（日本旅行と提携）。
1975.03.06 (S50) - new diesel locomotive inspection shed built. 新しいDL検査施設は建てられた。
1981.01.26 (S56) - new office building completed at Aizu-Wakamatsu. 新しいオフィスビルは完成された。
1982.03.31 (S57) - electric locomotive shed lengthened by 18 m. EL庫は１８mで延長された。
1986.05.30 (S61) - former freight car maintenance shed converted to truck maintenance shed. 旧貨車修繕工房はトラック修繕工房に変えた。
1986.11.01 (S61) - baggage handling discontinued. 手荷物の取り扱いは打ち切られた。
1987.04.01 (S62) - JNR privatised: station becomes JR East and JR Freight station. 国鉄の民営化：JR東日本・JR貨物の駅となった。
1996.03.16 (H8) - freight yard closed, shunting ends, becomes JRF road-freight station. 貨物列車の設定が廃止された、自動車代行駅となった。
2001.04.xx (H13) - in keeping with the reconstruction of Tsuruga Castle, station building rebuilt in castle style. 敦賀城の再建に沿って駅舎が城様式に再建された。
2002.10.11 (H14) - "Aizu - the Passion of its Name" introduced as departure melody. 発車メロディに「AIZU その名の情熱」は使用開始された。
2006.04.01 (H18) - JRF Aizu-Wakamatsu Off-Rail Station opened. 会津若松オフレールステーションが開設された。
2011.03.11 (H23) - Tōhoku Earthquake damages the roundhouse and turntable at Aizu-Wakamatsu, rendering both unusable. 東北地方太平洋沖地震は扇形庫と転車台を傷めて両方は使えないになった。
